Over the years more and more reasons for going organic over synthetic farming became more and more obvious. Synthetic farming produces more faster and at less cost, more profit, but is destructive to the environment, the soil, life forms and last, but not least, to the human consumer. We seem to live in a society willing to endlessly destroy in the name of profit. I don’t have the time here to go over all the deleterious effects of synthetic farming/gardening as opposed to the positive, enhancing effects of organic farming/gardening. But in recent times I have come to see that what we have are two underlying world views. Two very definite mentalities at odds with each other. Western civilization seems to have been built on an inherent drive of conquest, destruction and degradation. I have witnessed, in my life time, this country going to war almost all the time. Right now we seem to be unable to provide work, jobs, in our own country, but able to fight in three countries at tremendous cost. Some people get rich, the rest of us get poor. All of this is the outcome of a pervasive, long-lasting, mentality based in conquest. Take by force, destroy, conquer. The outcome of this mentality has brought us to where we are today. It doesn’t look good. The problem is we are running out of natural resources and living in the ever increasing, destructive waste of our own doing. For example: we are number one in cancer in the world and cancer is almost entirely a man made disease.
Our current overall mentality, worldview, ways in which we deal with our environment and in our synthetic farming productions, is with the same conquer, destroy, eliminate, control, and dominate mentality. Organic growing is not just an alternative to synthetic growing but is rooted in a mentality, a world view, that goes beyond just food farming/gardening. It is rooted in nature. The organic worldview sees the relationships between life forms and is aware of their importance to all of life. The organic worldview sees that for every problem nature provides a safe, integrated, and sustainable solution. Maybe the solution is not immediately known but it can become known and there are always more than one solution. Usually a combination of solutions work best. If we, as a society, were rooted in the organic worldview we would apply it to our lives in every aspect, i.e., how we would look at industry and how to incorporate industry into an organic worldview. |
